Do you know what your core personal values are?

Being a Doer of Your Personal Values

In a previous post I guide you through defining your core personal values. These are the values that make you tick and make you who you are.
However, having the head knowledge of what your core life values are and not doing any thing with that knowledge is like knowing you need to drive to Whiteface TX, and you have a map but you are stubborn and won’t open the map. You just drive the “general direction” and hope that you get to where you want to be.

Today I would like for you to go through the exercise of listing your core values – if you haven’t read How To Figure Out What Makes You Tick in 4 Easy Steps, now would be a good time =)

Core Life Values

You should have your list of your 12 core life values. I call them “Heart Full Values” because you will discover something along the way that I’ll write about later.

I would like to ask you to list your values down the page, and then write a couple of things you are actively doing that are aligned with your values.

Let’s say that “Adventure” is one of your values. What are you doing in your life that gives you the adventure you want? Are you planning on a trip to a far away country? Do you regularly sky-dive? Do rock climb? The definition of Adventure is “an exciting or new experience” so, technically, “Adventure” is in the eye of the beholder. It’s YOU, the “Doer” that defines Adventure. Your adventure may be a Saturday day trip to a small town you have never visited looking for new antique shops. It’s sort of like ToMAYto or ToMAHto. Just depends on what your definition is.

Some of the core values in the How To Figure Out What Makes You Tick in 4 Easy Steps are open to definition, so don’t let that hold you back.

Here is the eye opening experience I hope you have. If you find that have not been a DOER of your core values, you are probably a person who is:

  • Unhappy
  • Stressed
  • Rundown
  • Feel like you are living a life of no Purpose
  • Wondering what you are HERE to do.
  • Is there more to life?

But, there is light and there is the encouragement for you!
Take your list of Core Heart Full Values. Become a DOER. Make your list of things you SHOULD be doing and start taking action now

I promise you start feeling like a whole new person when you start living according to your Heart Full Values!

Hi Kim, you remind me of SARK. Nice post, and now I want to go back and read the post you linked to to see how you suggest one finds core values. 🙂 Visiting form UBC and hoping you’re having a lovely weekend. 🙂

Wow these are such great tips, and just what I needed to hear today. Thanks for this post.

Kim, this series is really speaking to me! I used to be a carefree person but as I get older, the more stressed I get. I know some of that comes with increased responsibility, but it also comes from losing my core values and what makes me tick. I’m excited to sit down and make a list and get myself back on track!

    Great post!
It’s true, there’s no point just talking about something. Only we ourselves can make it happen!

Erin – I’m so glad you are enjoying it. Clearly and precisely defining my core values were truly a live changing event for me!

Wow Veroncia..I take being compared to SARK as a huge compliment and surely don’t feel worthy of accolades. Thank you again..and I hope you had a wonderful weekend as well!
