Hunger and Thirst: You Will Be Satisfied – The Beatitudes

This morning’s devotion and soul search found me reading my Bible, the book of Matthew chapter 5 where the scriptures known as “The Beatitudes” are found.

The Beatitudes are the BE-Attitudes

I remember having a book many years ago that said they are the BE-ATTITUDES because they describe the attitudes that should be in your life. They describe the characteristics of God’s children and are our blueprint for happiness and the foundation for our Christian character.

When you read through the scriptures of Matthew 5:3-12 you will notice two things.

Verses 3 thru 6 are inward directed.
Verses 7 thru 12 are outward directed.

I found this wonderful video describing verse 5 where the scriptures say:
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled” (KJV)
One version of the verse says “you are blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God”.
Beatitudes Matthew 5:6 Hunger and Thirst for righteousness

Many times we think of hunger and thirst as BAD things because it’s the rumbling in our tummy that needs to be filled or the thirst in our mouth that needs to be quenched.

But, as these ladies point out, hunger and thirst for what God has to give us is a good thing! We need to have a rumbling in our stomach and a hunger for His words.

I hope you enjoy watching this and be sure to share it with your friends who may find some encouragement also!
