Time for a Cool Change
Time for a Cool Change
It’s amazing where the world of Google will take you when you start those inquiring clicks.
I had read a Bible scripture that made me think about sailing and being on the open water.
It reads “If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand will guide me” It’s from the books of Psalms which was a song book for the early Jewish people. Every time I read a scripture in Psalms my mind tries to put together notes and imagine how those ancient people must have sounded when they sang the Psalms.
So I began to Google about morning winds and sailing. Mainly my curiosity was were morning winds better than afternoon winds? I still don’t know the answer, but somehow the Google search brought up a Youtube video from a group called Little River Band and their song “Cool Change”.

As I watched the video and listened to the words, I began to think again about that scripture in Psalms. Did you hear the line in video that said “If there’s one thing in my life that’s missing, It’s the time that I spend alone, Sailing on the cool and bright clear water.”?
I know from being on a cruise ship that the morning winds out on the open seas is a breathtaking experience. As far as my eyes could see, nothing but water and sky and a rising sun. It’s a beautiful time for meditation, reflection and prayer.
Perhaps the Psalmist was singing also about a time of stepping away from the hustle and bustle and spending time alone with God.
I know everyone is busy. I’m busy, you are busy, our families are busy.
Since we all just came through a weekend of reflection with the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 – perhaps now would be a good time to begin taking more time for times of reflection.
No, maybe we can’t hop on a sailboat and take out for the water. But there are places and ways we can find quietness. And in that quietness we can pray, think, reflect, or as we Texans sometimes do – Ponder.
I encourage you to take time to day – take time for a cool change.
