7 Hours the Magic Sleep Number
I have been researching a little bit about sleep and sleep patterns. Trying to find that magic place where I have just enough sleep and wake up even more refreshed and full of energy. (A new pillow is part of the journey as well!) While reading Breakthrough, by Suzanne Somers she mentioned that she consistently always sleeps 9 hours a night. WOW. That is a lot of sleep!
I found a small little article on Dr. Mercola’s website about the topic and here is what it said:
“People who sleep either more or fewer than seven hours a day, including naps, have an increased risk for cardiovascular disease, according to a new study.
Sleeping fewer than five hours a day more than doubles your risk of being diagnosed with angina, coronary heart disease, heart attack or stroke. And sleeping more than seven hours also increases the risk of cardiovascular disease; more than nine hours of sleep results in a 50 percent increase in the risk.
The Daily Telegraph reports:
“The most at-risk group was adults under 60 years of age who slept five hours or fewer a night. They increased their risk of developing cardiovascular disease more than threefold … Women who skimped on sleep … were more than two-and-a-half times as likely to develop cardiovascular disease.”
I found this information interesting. I can remember hearing older adults that I know complain about having a hard time sleeping. And the younger folks seem to be so busy, there is no time for sleep. Somewhere there must be a happy medium.
I do know that recently, as I have increased my nutrition with supplements, I have had better and more restful sleep. I tend to average about 6 to 7 hours a night.
Maybe it is time to change the alarm clock!

I love my sleep and thrive on 8 hours. Like you Kim, I too take nutritional supplements – I find that adding a Calcium/Magnesium/Vit D3 combination supplement helps me to relax at night.

HELEN! Thank you for stopping by! I always knew nutritional supplements were needed. I’ve taken them off and on through the years.
