You are the salt of the earth

My Monday musings had me thinking about some things in the kitchen and a simple grain of salt.

You are the salt of the earth it says in the Bible.

Have you ever looked at a grain of salt? It’s so small and tiny. Yet, even putting that one little grain on your tongue and you can taste it!

You are the salt of the earth

The Bible says in Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again?” I think often times, we become overwhelmed with that scripture because we think in order to be “real” salt, we have to be BIG and HUGE with our actions. Perhaps we think in our mind we have to be a mound of salt, like you see in the pictures of how salt is mined from the ground.

You are the salt of the earth Matthew 5:13

But, I believe we need to think again and just concentrate on our one grain a day.

I don’t think anyone will not agree that it appears this old world is spiraling downwards. There are more and more rumors of war. People are being killed in more numbers than ever for being Christians (if you didn’t know it, that’s what ISIS is doing – eliminating Christians in the Arab countries – by the thousands and thousands daily). Here in America we are killing babies and care more about a lion or a whale that has been killed rather than a LIFE that has been terminated.

You may not be the one chosen to stand on a stage and deliver a message of hope. You may not be the one that has been called to write a 5 book series calling others to a closer walk with Christ.

But, look in your salt shaker (your life, your body) and take one grain of salt.

Salt is small, but it can pack a punch.

It’s a preservative and can prevent rot and decay.

It’s a preventative and can help the body fend off disease.

It’s a curative and can help tissues and muscles mend.

How can you help the world?

In your small world, your four walls, the people that your life touches daily, here on Facebook – be a grain of salt during these dark days.

The world needs it.
Your little world around needs it.
You need it.

Offer an encouraging word.
Don’t just like Facebook posts, but engage with people by commenting with them.
Do simple deeds of kindness, such as smiling at the checker or helping someone with a heavy door.
Stand up for those that have no voice.
Be strong arm for those that are weak.

You are the change the world needs.

I would love for you to share ways you are being ‘the salt of the earth’. Be sure to comment below!

Very nice Kim! I love your message! I’m an empty nester; actually a revolving doorer. My last one finally flew the coop (again) a couple of weeks ago. So once again it’s just we two. YAY! 😉 I found fun things to do with my time and also wrote a couple of posts about what to do when the kids move out. I’m loving your blog!

Hi Susie! I love the phrase “revolving door” LOL. The door is always open here, but our house is tiny and we ended up having to use our son’s old bedroom so now he would be stuck on the couch. Thanks for stopping by and I truly hope you find more encouragement and ideas here!
