Prayers for Boston

oldglory Abraham Lincoln

In lieu of the events today in Boston, only prayer is appropriate…..
Our prayers are with those injured, both physically and and emotionally, in Boston.
Our thanks to the first responders who ran towards the chaos.
We are eternally thankful to the Police, Firefighters, and EMT’s.

Butterflies are self propelled flowers

I was looking through some pictures from our trip to Key West in 2010.
The butterfly conservatory was one of my favorite places to visit!
I’ve always loved butterflies and the chance to be in a room with them flying freely around me was very thrilling!

We are so thankful that we have been able to spend our empty nest years traveling!

Turning purpose to passion to profit

Leap of Faith

Leap of Faith

I have to share a funny story….. My hubby is a minister along with his other “job” duties.
Through the years, he has performed many wedding ceremonies as a result for his buddies with the Police departments. He now as a friend that is a Wedding DJ, and that friend has started giving out his name when he goes to bridal shows and events.

A while back, he got a call from someone needing a minister. After the phone call, I told the hubs “honey, you need a website so that he, or you, can give folks your business card and you have a website that introduces you to them”.

He said, ” really? I can have website?”

So, on a leap of faith he let me “Brand” him. I’ve been working on giving him quick lessons about “being Branded” and thus, www.911Preacher.com was born real fast. He will come to me and say “you know, on my website , I want it to say this instead”..

We both have learned during our “not quite yet 50 years” to really get in touch with things that we LOVE and are passionate about and add those to our lives.

I talk to ladies that are in their Empty Nest depression stage, and I seem to hear repeatedly that their husbands are “doing their own things” but the Mom’s are stuck.

I’m not a psychologist, I don’t know the “why’s” that it happens that way.

But, I do know, Mom’s, that you probably spent years putting your kids first and some of the things you enjoyed or loved may have been pushed aside.

I just want to encourage you that when the nest is empty and you have more time on your hands, is the perfect time to reconnect with YOU. What do YOU really like? WHO are you? What were things you enjoyed doing when you were a kid? BEFORE you had stress! I know, that sounds like something a “Shrink” would say. BUT, it really is some questions you have time now to ask yourself and get in touch with.

I’m working on creating a work book that an Empty Nest mom could work through to try to discover hidden you! It just saddens me to find out that so many women really struggle so deeply with Empty Nest syndrome.

Until then, follow along here as I’ll be sharing some snippets along the way and I hope it truly HELPS you to Re-Purpose Your Life now that your kids have flown the coop!

Simple Things to Make Life Easier – Day 6

Cute and cheap party ideas for the empty nest (or the full nest!)

Duct tape around a water bottle.

Can’ get more simple than that! Healthier than punch and icing them in a bucket will be a breeze. The duct tape won’t peel off!

Simple Things to Make Life Easier – Day 5

Buy the bigger portion.

That may sound opposite to your diet plans.

But the next time you go out to dinner be sure and order the larger portion. As soon as it arrives ask for a box, split it in half and save the portion in the fridge for lunch the next day.

Saves time because new you don’t have to make yourself lunch the next day and saves money as it is usually more cost effective per ounce to buy the full meal and not the lunch portion.

Simple Things to Make Life Easier – Day 3

Consolidate printers.

I had a printer. Hubby had a printer. Two different brands.

We decided to go with a new ink jet printer that can be accessed via our WIFI.

What’s even better is that the this printer has an app for my phone. Now pictures on my phone can be easily printed without sending them to myself via email. My opinion…every new Meme (Grandma) needs a new printer.

I don’t know how much money we will save (that wasn’t the goal) but I do know I’ll save time not having to send myself emails of pictures from the phone!

Simple Things to Make Life Easier – Day 2

Repetitive unproductive actions waste my time.

That statement is really a no brainer.

Can you think of a repetitive unproductive action that you do during the day that really doesn’t get “anything done”.

My action is checking email. I realized the other day that I had checked my email 10 times! Oh my goodness, did I really think Publishers Clearing House is going to notify me by mail?? I KNOW they do that with the van, tv crew and balloons!!

The recent simple change I started in my life to make my life easier is to check my personal email twice a day. I thought about doing it only once a day, but for me to reduce to one when I had been doing it 10 seemed a little drastic, but I may change that thought soon!

The flip side to this action is when I check my email…I CHECK MY EMAIL. That means I take action on the emails right then and there. If I need to delete, I do so. If I need to read it, I do it. And if it’s junk I delete AND take the time to unsubscribe or report spam. RIGHT THEN AND THERE…NO DELAY!

Oh my goodness how freeing this has been!

Here’s to making life easy and simple!

Simple Things to Make Life Easier – Day 1

Our nest is empty and part of my survival has been all about finding ways to simplify life. I’m on a mission for the next 30 days to find simple ways to make life easier. I may find and action, a computer program, a phone application or who knows what else. It’s time to take the 24 hours in a day, those precious 1440 minutes and use them wisely and to the fullest! They say if you aren’t taking enough breaks, then you actually start losing productivity.

I don’t know about you, but I can get so engrossed in the rush of work that I will find myself with tense muscles and eyes that focus. I’ll look at the clock and realize I have been working without a break for over 2 hours.

I’ve found an Android application that will help me to remember to take breaks and rest my brain.

Now, instead of cluttering up my Alarms on my phone, this application can help me.
